Na drugą płytę duetu Basement Jaxx musieliśmy czekać dwa lata. W tym czasie muzyka klubowa zrobiła znaczny krok do przodu, m.in. w kierunku wyznaczonym na debiutanckim albumie Simona Ratcliffe'a i Felixa Buxtona - "Remedy". Zgodnie z oczekiwaniami, Anglicy na "Rooty" poszli za ciosem. Jednak ich nowa muzyka co najmniej zaskakuje. Oprócz tanecznego hitu "Romeo" na krążku tym znajdziemy bowiem eksperymenty z electro, post big beatem, housem i latino.

Przygotowując "Rooty", chłopaki nie poszli na łatwiznę i nie skopiowali złotonośnej formuły z "Remedy". Wypracowali nowe, oryginalne brzmienie - może nie tak przystępne jak poprzednie, ale także funkowe i wesołe. Ten super sexowny, połamany, drażniący house otwiera dla gatunku zupełnie nowe drzwi... Even now the achingly cool fashionistas throw labels at these SW9 superstars, and accusations of style over content still come from jealous detractors. But what is still sure upon hearing Rooty, is that there ain't much better than the house that Jaxx built.... więcej »

I have the same objections to this disc that I had to Kool Keith's Sex Style-- even though the rhymes were tight, and the production spoke for itself, the tastelessness of Keith's lyrics seemed to overshadow the record's finer points. By the same token, a few fatal flaws eclipse all of Rooty's abundant qualities. Basement Jaxx have taken kitsch a few steps too far.
